The NEW Dermatology Group Clinic Renovation and Adaptive Reuse project team, architect, subcontractors, and Owners re-imagined a mundane office building into a showcase of innovation, craftsmanship design, and functionality.
The interior was gutted to the bones and rebuilt to meet the Owners’ vision. Existing 1st and 2nd story rooms were removed to accommodate a soaring clerestory lobby. A grand staircase was added to connect the lobby and waiting room. Reclaimed lumber from a 19th century Jim Beam whiskey barrel storage building, a Kentucky equestrian center and vintage Wisconsin barns were converted into faux beams, columns, trusses, trim, accent walls, and flooring. The building was expanded to accommodate exam and laboratory spaces. A solarium was safely excavated, reinforced, and constructed to bring natural light into the lower-level employee break room. Exterior brick was stained, and LP Smart Siding added to create the desired “vintage contemporary” appearance. We worked collaboratively with adjacent businesses to reroute traffic flow and ensure adequate parking during construction so there were no disruptions to their daily operations.
Using merit shop principles, our concrete, steel, cabinetry, and carpentry professionals cross-trained so they could perform in all four divisions of work. Remarkably, 32% of the project was self-performed.
This project earned a Projects of Distinction Silver Award from Associated Builders and Contractors.
